Mrigashirsha Nakshatra is a constellation of four stars in the Orion belt. In Vedic astrology, this is the fifth nakshatra of 27 nakshatras. When the Moon is between 53° 20′ Taurus and 66° 40′ of Gemini, we consider this to be Mrigashirsha.
In Sanskrit, Mrigashirsha translates to ‘A Deer’s head.’ This constellation is of stars, Bellatrix (Gamma-Orionis), Pi2, Pi3, and Pi4-Orionis. Bellatrix of the Mrigashirsha constellation is one of the brightest stars of the sky.
These four stars, when mapped, form the shape of a deer’s (stag/antelope) head. Our Vedic seers assigned a Deer’s head as a star symbol, years ahead of modern astronomy. This nakshatra has four padas, two in each Taurus and Gemini moon sign, bridging the Earthy sign with an Airy sign.
The presiding deity of the star is Soma, the planet Moon. Curiosity, Hunting, seeking is the primordial nature of this Mrigashirsha Nakshatra. Benevolence is also one of the unique attributes of this star. This star imparts a constant seeking, heightened sense of smell, and timid nature. Restlessness, nerves, and lack of patience are natural flaws of this nakshatra.
