Calculation

D4 chart divides each sign or Rashi into four units of 7 degrees 30minutes. Chaturthamsa chart is a magnified version of the fourth house of the natal chart(D1).

Planets that fall in the first Chaturthamsa occupy the same sign. Planets that range in the 2nd division occupy the 4th house from the sign. Planets that fall in the 3rd division are placed in the 7th house from the sign and lastly, the planets in the 4th division are placed in the 10th house from the sign where the planet is placed. These houses are ruled by sages Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatkumar, and Sanatana in the order.

0° to 7°30' = 1st Chaturtamsa of a sign. 7°30' to 15° = 2nd Chaturtamsa of a sign.

15° to 22°30' = 3rd Chaturtamsa of a sign. 22°30' to 30° = 4th Chaturthamsa of a sign.

For example:

In a natal chart, if planets Sun at 5°, Jupiter at 11°33' Moon at 20°12' and Venus at 26°9' are placed together in Cancer

  1. In the chart, Sun will remain in the same sign in chaturthamsa chart because its in the first part of chaturthamsa.
  2. Jupiter in the second chaturthamsa will be placed in Libra (fourth house from Cancer)
  3. Moon in the third chaturthamsa, will be placed in Capricorn(seventh house from Cancer)
  4. Venus is in the fourth chaturthamsa, so that Venus will be placed in Aries (tenth from Cancer)

Purpose of the Chaturthamsa Chart

D4 chart can help us read and understand the role of fate, destiny, fortune, or bhagya of a native. Psychic & emotional security, Mother's love, and affection, maternal chords are also read from this chart.

The possessions of immovable properties, vehicles, and gains, losses, or litigations associated with this material wealth can be seen from this divisional chart.

This also is seen for the inheritance of assets, location and nature of house or residence, vehicle, and other material aspects of the possessions.

D4 chart explains the ability of a native to buy or sell a property/house, the financial dynamics like availing loans, etc., associated with it.

Losses like mortgages, hypothecations, or gains like rental income, investments on the property, houses can be foreseen through the D4 chart.

Relocation, shifting houses, or time away from the properties through travel can also be predicted in the chart.

The house or asset's nature- huge, exotic house or simple small house, luxury vehicles are also interpreted through this house.

Interpretation

To understand the D4 chart better, let us study the personification of the planets from shastras,

Sun is termed as King,

the Moon as Queen,

planet Mercury as Prince,

Venus as an influential minister,

planet Mars as a Commander in chief for his courage,

planet Jupiter as a spiritual guru,

planet Saturn as an attending servant to the kingdom.

This can help us estimate the magnitude of affluence on the assets a native possesses or accumulates.

  • When Sun or Moon is the Lord of the 4th House or aspect effect on the 4th house and its Lord, the assets tend to be royal, elite, and wealthy.
  • On the contrary, if Saturn is in a similar position/state, the assets tend to be meager or negligible.
  • The strength of the planets also affects the nature of the asset. Even a weakly placed Sun or Moon can positively influence the property wealth as opposing to a strong Saturn.
  • The asset's royalty and richness follow this hierarchy - Sun, Moon (highly affluent), Jupiter and Venus followed by Mars & Mercury and Saturn being the least affluent.
