Drekkana Chart

This chart is an extension of the third house, provides a deep analysis of bravery, courage, and siblings. They can also represent the hidden personalities, inner nature, and behavior of an individual. In this chart, each sign is divided into 3 equal parts of 10° each called Drekkana or Dreshkana or Decante. There are about 36 Drekkanas- 3 for each of the 12 signs. There are various methods in calculating D3 charts, and common four major charts are called, 

1. Parashara Drekkana- most commonly used in Vedic astrology. Framed by Sage Parashara

2. Jagannath Drekkana- used in coherence with the D60 chart to analyze previous incarnations.

3. Somanath Drekkana- used in Prashna Jyothisha techniques, helps us analyze the intimacies, sexual desire, drive, and libido.

Parashara Drekkana Chart is widely used in Vedic astrology due to its detailed representation of various aspects of life. According to Sage Parashara, Planets in the first 10° sign are positioned in the drekkana chart in the same sign. Planets in the middle 10° of the sign are placed in the 5th drekkana chart from the sign. Lastly, the planets in the last 10° of a sign are placed in the 9th drekkana chart from the sign. Three sages rule these 1st, 2nd, 3rd drekkanas, and they denote varying attributes of soul, mind, and five senses.  

1st drekkana- this is represented by Sage Naradha; He is known for sheer devotion, nature of the soul is denoted by this house. Planets in the Drekkanas ruled by Sage Naradha denote the spiritual and karmic patterns of the native and its relation to the siblings. 

5th drekkana - Sage Agastya is a powerful Saptarshi with immense knowledge and intellect. This house represents the mind. This signifies the mental and psychological aspects of the native. 

9th drekkana - Sage Durvasa is known for his prowess in managing the five senses. This house represents the senses and five sensory organs of an individual. The sensual and physical comforts of the native is learnt from this house. 

For example, in a natal chart, planets Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus are together in Gemini. Mercury is at 4°. Jupiter is at 17°. Venus is at 23°. 

Mercury is in the first at 4° (0°-10°), Jupiter is in the middle at 17° (10°-20°), and Venus is in the last at 23° (20°-30°). Mercury is placed in Gemini in the drekkana chart; Jupiter is placed in Libra (5th from Gemini) in the drekkana chart; Venus is placed in Aquarius (9th from Gemini) in the drekkana chart.

Purpose of the Drekkana Chart

D3 chart is a key to understand a native's hidden nature, behavior, and attributes. 

It shows details about a native's siblings and their association with them. Various dimensions about sibling relationships and its nature can be well understood by analyzing the D3 chart. 

Intricacies of sibling relation, like the number of siblings, their nature, gender, emotional bond, the wellbeing of siblings, can be interpreted from this chart. 

Wealth related: this chart also helps us examine wealth-related matters through siblings like wealth gain, losses, or expenses through younger siblings. Legal disputes through siblings can also be foreseen in this chart.

Interpretation

From the table, it is understood that, 

If more planets are placed in Uttam or good drekkanas, the native tends to be happy, courageous, resourceful, ambitious, and hardworking. 

If planets are placed in moderate or bad drekkanas, the native would be financially inconsistent, poor in health, lethargic, pessimistic, eludes from life responsibilities.

Drekkanas are closely associated with both the physical body and mental strength of a native. Many medical and psychological complications can be foreseen and fixed through this chart.

22nd drekkana is referred to as Khara or and it gives details about the native's nature and cause of death.

If the drekkana ascendant is occupied by any of the benevolent planets, the native acquires a great deal of status, popularity, and fame. This can make them highly powerful, virtuous, and super-skilled artists.

If a benefic planet occupies the third house of the D3 chart, the native tends to be lucky and enjoys love and respect from siblings.

If planet Mars is well placed in the D3 chart, the native exhibits great valor and enjoys fortunes through siblings

When exalted planets occupy 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th houses (kendras) of the D3 chart, the native becomes a ruler or a CEO, board member of an organization.

If 6th, 8th 12th houses are occupied by debilitated planets (enemy sign's house) in either natal or D3 chart, the native might suffer grievous injuries.

If the ascendant lord of the D3 chart occupies the 6th or 8th houses in the D1 natal chart, the native might show suicidal tendencies.
